History of Go Vocal
Since our co-founders started Go Vocal (then CitizenLab) in Belgium, we’ve grown into a global company with an impressive network of governments and organisations collaborating with us to build more participatory democracies.
2015
Startup mode
Initially motivated by a local busy intersection in desperate need of improvement, our co-founders recognised the complexity of traditional local government participation. On a digital nomad trip in South East Asia, a solution was born: a digital community engagement platform!
2016
A year of firsts
Founded in Belgium, Go Vocal’s (then CitizenLab) first pilot project was with the Belgian city of Hasselt. This was also the year we were awarded our first round of funding and awards, and when we welcomed our first client, the City of Oostende.
2017 & 2018
Continental growth
After a successful year of launching across Belgian cities and towns, we hired our first teams in the Netherlands (2017) and in France (2018).
2019
Leveling up
After receiving a $3 million second round of funding, we further grew our international presence by forming teams in the United Kingdom, Denmark, and Chile.
2020
International growth
We decided to scale our mission to one of the world’s largest democracies: the United States.
2021 & 2022
Leveling up
We further grew our international presence by growing to the DACH market and partnering with teams in Norway, Sweden, and Türkiye.
2023 - present
Continuous impact
Today, Go Vocal’s global team of 50+ local experts is working with more than 500 local governments and organisations across 20 countries to support more participatory decision-making.
