TREND #3

Governments are using digital to enhance participation and enable more efficient processes

In 2024, two key advancements stood out: the growing adoption of our Report Builder and Sensemaking input analysis tool. Governments used Go Vocal’s report-building tools to create detailed, visually appealing reports to communicate project outcomes and community feedback both internally an externally.

Reflection from our team

Wietse Van Ransbeeck
CEO & Co-Founder

As part of this growth in engagement, we’ve embraced a pivotal transformation ourselves. What began as a democracy lab has evolved into something much greater. To reflect the role we have today, we’ve rebranded and are now Go Vocal.

We’re empowering communities to engage meaningfully and influence decisions that shape their lives. For governments, we’re a partner who enables meaningful and efficient engagement and helps translate valuable community input into lasting positive impact.

This rebranding was a natural step in our journey and embodies our mission to strengthen democracy by scaling participatory practices. The double meaning of Go Vocal – encouraging communities to make their voices heard and encouraging governments to tap into the power of collective intelligence – perfectly aligns with our mission to foster inclusive, participatory, and responsive decision-making.”

3 more stand-out realizations of 2024:

England’s National Health Service (NHS)

We supported England’s National Health Service, the NHS, in the largest-ever public engagement on the future of the health service, engaging 100,000+ people of all stripes.

Fantastic to be able to have my say. I just hope it is listened to. Thank you.” - S.P.

Unlike most NHS surveys and questionnaires, this one has the feel of not just being a tick-box exercise to draw pie-charts from or to weed out the trouble-makers. I don't usually feel optimistic, but I'm hoping this project comes to something.”- L.N.

Copenhagen, Denmark

In Copenhagen, we saw the first resident Proposal make it all the way to the councillors’ debating chamber and into law, guaranteeing treatment to adults who grew up in homes with substance abuse. With 18,000 participants and counting, the city is successfully mobilizing Copenhageners to flex their democratic muscles.

Grew up in an abusive home – now he has secured millions for children like him

The citizens' proposal is the first so-called Copenhagen proposal in the municipality that has received enough votes to be taken up in the Citizens'

St. Louis, Missouri, USA

The city of St Louis, Missouri, gave 14,000+ locals the decision-making power on how to spend a $250 million settlement fund. In 2024, this engagement progressed from ideation to policymaking, with officials drafting legislation based on 6 spending priorities identified by residents.

Something that was surprising was the really strong support for using the money to fix our aging water infrastructure. We thought maybe they would want to expand public transit, which certainly was one of the ideas, but I think the water mains were a surprise.”
